  • Rockin’ Patent: GB Patent No. 2585280
  • Filed: 23 July 2018
  • In the name of Dyson Technology Limited
  • Title: A Wearable Air Purifier
  • What’s claimed: “A head wearable air purifier comprising: a first speaker assembly arranged to be worn over a first ear of a user and a second speaker assembly arranged to be worn over a second ear of the user, wherein one or both of the first speaker assembly and the second speaker assembly comprise a speaker driver, a filter assembly, an impeller for creating an airflow through the filter assembly, a motor arranged to drive the impeller and an air outlet downstream from the filter assembly for emitting the filtered airflow from the speaker assembly, wherein both the impeller and the motor are disposed within an impeller casing; a nozzle arranged to receive the filtered airflow from one or both of the first speaker assembly and the second speaker assembly, the nozzle comprising an air outlet arranged to emit the received filtered airflow from the head wearable air purifier; wherein one or both of the first speaker assembly and the second speaker assembly are arranged such that the speaker driver is nested behind the impeller casing and the impeller casing is nested behind the filter assembly.”
  • Why this patent rocks: This patent appears to relate to Dyson Technology Limited’s air-purifying headphones. Attached to the headphones is a removable visor that channels a stream of purified air to the nose and mouth, without making contact with the face. Each earcup includes a compressor that sucks in air by spinning, which passes through a 2-stage purification system that is said to trap pollutants and city fumes. The purified air exits the other side of the filter and is projected in a stream to the mouth and nose. For a more detailed overview of the technology, see here.
