  • Rockin’ Patent®: US Patent No. 8,667,721
  • Filed: 9 May 2006
  • In the name of: Memory Box UK Limited
  • Title: Apparatus And Method For Displaying An Item
  • What’s claimed: “An apparatus for displaying an item, the apparatus comprising: a first part and a second part, said first part defining a window through which an item positioned between said first and second parts can be seen and said second part including means for mounting on a wall; pivot means for pivotally connecting said first and second parts to one another; a catch element for limiting relative pivotal rotation of the first and second parts away from each other about said pivot means, said catch element extending from one of said first and second parts through an aperture in another one of said first and second parts and includes a hooked or curved end for contacting a back side of said another one of said first and second parts, and wherein one of the first part and the second part comprises a pressing means for pressing an item located between the first and second parts against the other one of said first and second parts.”
  • Why this patent rocks: This patent appears to relate to Memory Box UK Limited’s Play & Display Flip Frame, used to display vinyl albums. According to Memory Box UK Limited, the apparatus allows users to change the display within seconds without needing to remove the frame from the wall. It is said that one only needs to press the catch at the top of the frame, and it will hinge open. For a detailed overview of how the apparatus works, see here.
